In late 2007 I had a discussion with three other Wellington-based independent business consultants about working together to support large organisations. We saw a need for both private and public entities to be able to engage experienced management consultants without massive overheads. We were confident that we could assist these organisations to reduce their overall ICT programme/project costs, and allow them to make significant business improvements at the same time.
The only way for our company to be truly productive, responsible for outcomes, and build solid relationships with our clients was to be hands-on with them every day. We decided the best approach was to work alongside our clients and gain a deep understanding of their business objectives and processes. With this knowledge we could then assist them to meet their objectives. To achieve this, we needed to source and retain the very best people in the market. Ascent Business Consulting was born. The goal was to form a consulting company made up of experienced, like-minded people who would benefit from working together to deliver specific outcomes while also managing and building our client relationships.
Through repeat business, we have grown rapidly. We now have a large team of associates, many of whom we have worked alongside for years. We deliver projects and assignments for larger government and commercial organisations. We have expanded into Auckland and more recently to Australia.
On reflection, we believe that we are delivering on our core values and, most importantly, it is still fun. Every day, we would like to think that we are providing great outcomes for our clients and we are grateful for their continued support.
